Meanwhile, our cast we know from the first book gets even more development. Again, I don’t want to go into spoilers here but seriously I did not expect to love this person as much as I did.
I won’t go into spoilery details, but we get to know a new character in this book and yes, I am in love with them. The banter between this character and Grace was hilarious, and I loved their dynamic so much. Crush then took that formula and flipped it on it’s head. Crave was a little bit more of your typical YA paranormal romance (but much more self aware). There were quite a few twists in this book that I did not see coming.
I also could not stop smiling. Seriously, I was enjoying myself way too much while reading, but I’ll get into the reasons for that later. The pace is very fast, with constant action (or buildup). Meanwhile the writing style is very similar to that of Crave it feels almost fanfiction-y, but in the best possible way. I’m curious how everyone else feels about the series and/or this book in particular.This book really fleshes out the world we were introduced to in Crave. We learn so much more about the different magical beings, the history behind them, and the politics of their world. How many times do we have to hear how much Grace loves Hudson or the saying “all hell breaks loose”? Or how someone cracks a dumb joke and the whole group laughs like they didn’t just watch their friends die and go through an extremely traumatic experience. The dialogue was sooo repetitive and boring. I’m never one to skip a word on any page but I had to practically skim this book to finish. This one feels so juvenile to me I was cringing almost every page. I don’t know if it was the time frame of reading the third and waiting so long to start the fourth after it’s release but were the other books this bad? I enjoyed the first three books, the second the most but this was the worst in the series imo. With that being said, I just finished the fourth book, Court, and I was damn near pulling my hair out.
My cup of tea is not everyone else’s and vice versa. This post is expressing my opinion and looking for others. Firstly, no hate to anyone who enjoyed the series.
